The Kwara State Government has declared Thursday, June 26, a public holiday to mark the Islamic New Year.

Governor AbdulRazaq urged residents to embrace peace, unity, and reflection during the 1447 AH celebration.

The Kwara State Government has announced Thursday, June 26, as a public holiday in honor of the Islamic New Year, marking the beginning of 1447 AH.

This was made known in an official statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye. According to the statement, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq extended warm greetings to the people of Kwara, especially the Muslim community, as they celebrate the start of the new Hijrah year.

The governor urged residents to use the occasion to reflect on the values of peaceful coexistence and mutual respect, which are central to the Hijrah event that commemorates the Prophet Muhammad’s migration. He encouraged everyone to embrace these values and allow them to guide their daily lives.

“Hijrah teaches personal and collective sacrifice for good causes and abandonment of everything that is antithetical to peace, harmony, and social justice,” Governor AbdulRazaq said.

He also expressed hope that the new year will bring prosperity, peace, and better security to all parts of Kwara State.
