Wike’s Aide Dismisses Allegation of Land Allocation to Minister’s Son
Wike’s aide has dismissed reports of a 2,082-hectare land allocation to the minister’s son.
He says the claim is false, insisting the land granted was for farming in Bwari, not Maitama.
Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has debunked claims that the minister allocated plots of land in Maitama and Asokoro to one of his sons.
The reports in question alleged that Wike handed out 2,082 hectares of land to his son across the upscale districts. However, Olayinka dismissed the story as entirely untrue and called on those behind the publication to come forward with concrete proof.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Olayinka said the claim lacked substance and urged Nigerians to ignore what he described as baseless fabrications.
He said, “In Asokoro and Maitama of today, where can the FCT Minister see 2,082 hectares of land to allocate to anyone? Only quack will go to town with story of allocation of 2,082 hectares of land in Asokoro and Maitama.”
He pointed out that the only document cited in the report was a Right of Occupancy issued to JOAQ Farms and Estate Limited for agricultural purposes. According to him, this was being wrongly interpreted to support the claims.
“To be clear, JOAQ Farms and Estate Limited, a company properly registered in Nigeria, received land allocation in Bwari Area Council strictly for farming,” he clarified.
He further questioned the issue at stake, saying, “So what’s is wrong with a farmer getting land allocation strictly for the purpose of agriculture?”
Olayinka concluded that the entire narrative was misleading and should not be taken seriously. “Therefore, the publication, claiming that the FCT Minister allocated 2,082 hectares of land to his son, is false and should be disregarded,” he stated.
