Anambra Police Applaud Resident Who Filmed Kidnap Scene in Awka

Anambra police commend man who recorded viral video of a kidnapping in broad daylight.

The clip shows armed men forcing a victim into a vehicle during early morning attack.

The Anambra State Police Command has praised a resident of Awka for bravely recording a video of a kidnapping incident that took place in the city. The footage, which has now gone viral, shows three armed men forcefully taking away a victim during an early morning operation on Friday.

According to the police, the suspects were seen in a stainless-colored Highlander SUV with no license plate. They reportedly fired multiple shots before abducting their target in broad daylight. The video captured by the courageous resident has now become a vital piece of evidence.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident and said that the police are now using the video to aid their investigation.

“The Anambra Police Command will rely on the video of this criminal act as part of its ongoing investigation,” Ikenga said. “The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has commended the bold action of the individual who captured the scene. His quick thinking is helping our efforts to track down the suspects and possibly rescue the victim.”

CP Orutugu also noted that the incident highlights the important role that residents can play in supporting security operations. He encouraged others to report crimes and share useful information with the authorities, assuring the public that their safety remains a top priority.

Meanwhile, the command is also investigating another kidnapping case in the state. SP Ikenga revealed that police officers recovered the lifeless body of a man identified as Mr. Chido Ozor. He was said to have been kidnapped from his piggery farm in Nimo, located in Njikoka Local Government Area, on June 19.

Efforts were made to rescue Ozor, but his body was sadly found near the same farm on June 23. The police say they are still pursuing the suspects behind both incidents and have assured residents that no stone will be left unturned in the ongoing investigations.
