Paul Onuachu Completes Permanent Transfer to Trabzonspor
Paul Onuachu seals permanent move to Trabzonspor after stunning loan spell earns fan admiration.
The Super Eagles striker looks to reignite career with Turkish giants ahead of international duties.
Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has finalized a permanent move to Turkish club Trabzonspor following an impressive loan performance during the 2023/2024 season. His former club, Southampton, confirmed the transfer on Friday, bringing an end to his two-and-a-half-year stay in English football.

The 31-year-old Nigerian forward had previously joined Trabzonspor on loan, where he made an immediate impact by scoring 15 goals in just 21 appearances, a run that quickly made him a fan favorite in the Turkish Super Lig.
In an official statement, Southampton said, “Southampton Football Club can confirm that terms have been agreed with Trabzonspor for the transfer of striker Paul Onuachu. We thank Paul for his efforts during his time as a Saints player and wish him well for the future.”
Onuachu, who joined Southampton from Genk in 2023, struggled to replicate his prolific form in the Premier League, registering only four goals across 40 appearances. His resurgence in Turkey, however, demonstrated his enduring quality and justified Trabzonspor’s decision to secure his services permanently.
Internationally, Onuachu has earned 24 caps and scored three goals for Nigeria since his debut in 2019. He was in the Super Eagles team that made it to the 2023 AFCON final in Côte d’Ivoire.
Now returning to the Turkish league on a full contract, Onuachu is expected to play a key role for Trabzonspor as they build toward the new season. His focus will also be on maintaining form and fitness ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming international fixtures.
Fans in Nigeria are eager to see him reclaim his peak form, while Trabzonspor supporters anticipate more dominant performances from the towering striker known for his aerial strength and clinical finishing.
