Governor Mbah Breaks Silence on PDP Exit Rumors
Governor Peter Mbah has dismissed rumors about leaving the PDP, affirming his loyalty to the party.
He also said his former rival, Chijioke Edeoga, has returned to join him in moving Enugu forward.
Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has cleared the air regarding recent claims suggesting he might be planning to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He firmly stated that he remains a committed member of the party.
Governor Mbah addressed the speculation during a meeting with members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) held in Enugu on Saturday. While speaking at the session, he pointed to a PDP flag behind him and said, “I am still in the PDP, as you can see, the flag behind me is that of the PDP.”
He acknowledged that the PDP is currently facing some internal challenges but stressed that these issues are not unique to the party alone. According to him, the party is capable of overcoming the difficulties and will come out stronger in due time.
Commenting on the idea of running as an independent candidate, Mbah noted that the Nigerian constitution does not make room for such political ambitions. He said, “So you must still do the politics as you cannot completely shield yourself from it.”
Speaking about his administration, the governor said his focus has remained on serving the people of Enugu State. “It is also clear from the people of Enugu State that we are in this to serve them. So we have focused largely on governance,” he said. “I believe that at the end of the day, the people would have to decide whether they want to renew our mandate or kick us out,” Mbah added.
He also disclosed that his former political opponent in the 2023 governorship race, Mr. Chijioke Edeoga, has now rejoined the PDP to collaborate in advancing development in the state.
