Suspected Herdsmen, Soldiers Clash Near Benue IDP Camp
Suspected herdsmen and soldiers clashed near two Benue communities, causing panic around an IDP camp.
Residents heard heavy gunfire, but security officials have not yet confirmed what happened.
There was a reported gun battle on Sunday afternoon between suspected herdsmen and military personnel near Tse Asha and Ukange communities in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. The incident occurred about two kilometers away from the Ortese Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp.
According to eyewitnesses, heavy gunfire could be heard in the area, raising fears among residents, especially those living close to the camp. Local sources expressed concern about the safety of the displaced persons and nearby communities.
One of the residents, Zege Orkwande, confirmed the situation, stating, “Security operatives have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.”
Attempts to get a response from the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer were not successful, as messages sent by the reporter went unanswered.
