Ayra Starr Says Acting Debut Gave Her New Respect for Actors

Ayra Starr embraces acting in her film debut, gaining new respect for the demanding profession.

She describes the experience as humbling, disciplined, and a long-held dream finally coming true.

Nigerian music sensation Ayra Starr has opened up about her first venture into acting, reflecting on how the experience gave her a newfound respect for actors and the demands of their craft.

The “Rush” singer recently stepped into the world of acting with her debut role in the much-anticipated American fantasy film “Children of Blood and Bone”, an adaptation of the bestselling novel by Nigerian-American author Tomi Adeyemi.

In a recent interview with CBS, Ayra Starr spoke about the excitement and challenges she faced while venturing into an entirely new creative field. She admitted that the acting world demanded a different level of discipline, especially compared to the flexibility she’s accustomed to in the music industry.

“It is my first movie ever. You know, I’m used to being a singer and diva on set, but this one with the movie is like, it’s not about you. You’ve to be on set on time. So, it made me get used to military time and working hard. I respect actors so much more now. Their stamina is impeccable,” she said.

Ayra Starr also revealed that acting has always been a personal dream, even though she was once shy about pursuing it.

“Acting is something I have always wanted to do. I love music, but I’ve always loved acting. I’ve always been shy when it comes to acting. But this is the first time in my life that I’ve been on camera and I’m not singing. It was amazing. I learned so much from everyone, not just the greats,” she added.

Helmed by director Gina Prince-Bythewood, Children of Blood and Bone boasts a star-studded cast, including Damson Idris, Tosin Cole, Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Cynthia Erivo, Viola Davis, and Thuso Mbedu.

The film is scheduled for release by Paramount Pictures on January 15, 2027.
