Governor Yusuf Launches Subsidized Fertilizer Distribution to Support Kano Farmers

Kano has launched a fertilizer subsidy to support farmers in all 44 local councils.

Governor Yusuf says the move aims to boost yields and fight hunger during the wet season.

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has launched a fertilizer distribution program aimed at supporting farmers across all 44 local government areas in the state. The fertilizer will be sold at a 50 percent discount to help increase agricultural productivity during the 2025 wet season.

Speaking at the Al-Yuma Fertilizer Plant in Madobi Local Government Area on Sunday, Governor Yusuf announced that three trucks of fertilizer equivalent to 600 bags per truck have been allocated to each local government, making a total of 79,200 bags for the entire state.

The initiative, according to a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, is designed to strengthen food security and improve livelihoods in Kano.

“This gathering is not just about handing out fertilizer,” Yusuf said. “It’s about investing in our future encouraging self-reliance, boosting our economy, and restoring the dignity of our people.”

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to revitalizing agriculture, noting that in the past two years, the state government had expanded access to farmland and improved irrigation systems.

“We have restored major irrigation projects, initiated new ones across 11 local governments, and developed over 1,250 hectares of farmland,” the governor said.

He also mentioned that a dam is currently being constructed at Dansoshiya in Kiru Local Government Area, which he described as a key step toward enabling year-round farming.

Governor Yusuf expressed confidence that the subsidized fertilizer would lead to better crop yields, stimulate economic growth, and ensure food stability across Kano State.
