Governor pledges continued support, urges appointees to lead with integrity and innovation.

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the civil service, which he described as the “engine room of governance.” The governor gave this assurance during the official swearing-in ceremony of 24 newly promoted Permanent Secretaries in the state.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Uzodimma noted that the promotions were carried out in strict adherence to the rules and regulations guiding the State Civil Service. He explained that this move was part of a broader effort to uphold meritocracy, professionalism, and institutional efficiency within the public sector.

“The civil service remains the backbone of effective governance. It is the machinery through which government policies are implemented and sustained. Therefore, it is only logical and necessary that we continue to invest in and support it,” Uzodimma stated.

Addressing the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries, the governor charged them to demonstrate high standards of integrity, discipline, and innovation in the discharge of their duties. He emphasized that the expectations of Imo people were high, and that the appointees must rise to the challenge by applying their wealth of experience and leadership capabilities to ensure the success of government programs and policies.

Governor Uzodimma further explained that the appointment of the 24 top civil servants was not merely routine but a deliberate step to enhance productivity and service delivery across ministries and agencies. He noted that his administration had placed premium on performance and capacity-building, and would continue to encourage a work culture based on competence and accountability.

“This promotion exercise is a clear statement that we value hard work and loyalty to duty. It is also a demonstration of our resolve to restore the dignity and professionalism of the civil service in Imo State,” he added.

He urged the new appointees to serve as role models to junior staff and to contribute meaningfully to the shared mandate of delivering good governance and development to the people of Imo State.

The event was witnessed by top government officials, senior civil servants, family members of the appointees, and other well-wishers.

Public reactions to the development have been largely positive, with many applauding the governor for prioritizing merit and institutional reform. Some citizens expressed hope that the new Permanent Secretaries would rise to the occasion and make significant contributions to the progress of the state.
