He rejected bigger clubs to grow where he feels valued, confident and ready to shine.
Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu has reaffirmed his commitment to Slavia Prague, expressing a strong desire to play UEFA Champions League football with the Czech giants.

The 25-year-old Nigerian international, who recently signed a contract extension with Slavia, turned down interest from several high-profile European clubs, including Turkish sides Besiktas and Fenerbahce, as well as French Ligue 1 outfit Olympique Lyon.
In an interview with Footy Africa, Ogbu emphasized that remaining at Slavia was a well-considered decision rooted in his understanding of the club’s structure and ambitions.
“For me, extending my contract is a good decision, and I believe it’s the best one because I understand the system and the philosophy here,” Ogbu stated. “I will also be able to play in the Champions League, which is something I’ve always wanted. That’s why I decided to stay for a while before making the next step. For me, it’s the right choice.”
Ogbu joined Slavia Prague in early 2023 and quickly became a mainstay in the club’s defensive line. His consistent performances have helped Slavia remain one of the top teams in the Czech First League and a regular contender in European competitions.
Internationally, Ogbu made his senior debut for Nigeria in a Unity Cup friendly match against Ghana, which ended in a 2-1 victory for the Super Eagles. His road to national team recognition has been shaped by perseverance and family influence. Despite eligibility to represent other nations, Ogbu remained resolute in his choice to play for Nigeria, a decision encouraged by his father’s deep patriotic values.
“I’ve always wanted to wear the green and white,” Ogbu once shared in a previous interview. “My father believed in Nigeria, and that belief shaped my dream too.”
With his future at Slavia Prague secured, Ogbu is now aiming to make a deeper mark both in Europe and with the Nigerian national team. His Champions League ambition reflects not only personal growth but also his drive to compete at football’s highest levels while staying rooted in loyalty and long-term vision.
As Slavia Prague prepares for the new season, Ogbu’s presence in the squad is expected to be a key asset in their push for domestic dominance and European advancement.
