Peter Obi Declares 2027 Presidential Ambition, Pledges to Serve Only One Term

Peter Obi is back in the race, promising bold reforms and a single-term presidency if elected.

He vows to fix insecurity, revive the economy, and make every Nigerian vote truly count.

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has officially declared his intention to contest the presidency again in 2027. During a live X Spaces session on Sunday night, Obi addressed supporters in Nigeria and across the globe, affirming his readiness to serve only one term if elected.

The former Anambra State governor emphasized that his ambition is driven by a desire to fix Nigeria’s deep-rooted problems. He also distanced himself from rumors of a possible alliance with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, stressing that any political coalition must be built solely around solving Nigeria’s pressing issues.

“If the coalition isn’t focused on ending insecurity in Benue and Zamfara, reviving the economy, and putting food on Nigerians’ tables, then count me out,” Obi stated. “Nigeria is in a state of war. We need urgent and focused leadership.”

In a statement issued on Monday by his media aide, Ibrahim Umar of the Peter Obi Media Reach, Obi pledged to bring stability to the country within the first two years of his administration. He called on citizens to join him in what he described as a national rescue mission.

On internal Labour Party matters, Obi confirmed that the party is working toward securing recognition from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the faction led by Nenadi Usman, in compliance with a Supreme Court directive.

Addressing the issue of power rotation, Obi reiterated his support for balancing governance between the North and South, noting that he practiced such inclusivity during his time as governor of Anambra State.

Turning to national leadership, Obi took a swipe at President Bola Tinubu for his alleged frequent trips abroad. He questioned the President’s extended stay in St. Lucia, a country he compared in size to Ilorin, Nigeria’s 10th largest city. “Since assuming office, President Tinubu hasn’t spent a night outside Lagos in any Nigerian state. Yet he can stay 10 days in St. Lucia,” Obi said.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Obi pledged a peaceful and transparent approach. He stressed that his campaign would not tolerate electoral malpractice. “We will do things differently in 2027. It will be non-violent, and we will demand that every vote counts before the final results are announced in Abuja,” he declared.

Obi also shared a roadmap for his first 100 days in office, highlighting security, education, and poverty alleviation as top priorities. He vowed to channel government resources into these critical sectors and assured the public that his family would not be involved in any form of corruption.

Finally, he promised to foster a strong, functional opposition and put an end to the practice of party-switching by elected officials, describing it as a threat to Nigeria’s democracy.

I wonder if Obi is a politically intelligent politician. I doubt. He is not a political match for President Tinubu. Never.
