Atiku, Obi, Amaechi, El-Rufai, Others Join ADC Coalition Launch in Abuja

Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, and other political leaders attend the unveiling of a new coalition under the African Democratic Congress in Abuja.

The move signals a possible united opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.

Key political figures across Nigeria’s opposition parties gather at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) unveils a new coalition. The alliance appears to be a coordinated step toward building a united political front that could challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Among those seen at the event are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi. They appear alongside former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi. Others at the gathering include Senator Dino Melaye, former Youth and Sports Minister Solomon Dalung, and Dele Momodu, a media entrepreneur and prominent PDP member.

The coalition seems to draw support from several political parties including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and other political blocs. The ADC is announced as the main platform for the coalition’s activities.

Labour Party Senators Gabriel Suswam and Ireti Kingibe are also present, along with former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Emeka Ihedioha and retired Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.

Leadership positions within the coalition appear to be taking shape, with former Senate President David Mark introduced as interim national chairman. Former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola is named interim national secretary.

Though it is unclear whether the coalition finalizes its leadership structure or outlines a formal agenda at the gathering, the presence of such prominent figures suggests serious political coordination may be underway. Analysts say if this coalition stays intact, it could shift Nigeria’s political balance heading into 2027.
