Broda Shaggi Highlights Funding Challenges for Nigerian Creatives

Broda Shaggi urges Nigerian creatives to treat their content as valuable assets, like crude oil.

He says intellectual property can unlock funding and transform ideas into long-term financial success.

Popular comedian and actor Broda Shaggi speaks on the major challenges facing creatives in Nigeria, highlighting the struggle to access funding despite the abundance of ideas and talent.

In a recent Instagram post, Shaggi stressed the importance of recognizing intellectual property (IP) as a powerful tool that can help creators secure financial backing. He encouraged content producers to start treating their work as valuable assets with the potential to generate significant wealth.

Using a striking comparison, he likened creative content to crude oil, both holding immense value when properly utilized.

He explained that by using IP as collateral, creatives can gain access to substantial funding that could drive innovation and long-term success in their careers.

“One of the biggest hurdles we face in the creative world isn’t talent or ideas, it’s access to funding. So here’s the real question. How can we, as creatives, unlock financing by leveraging our Intellectual Property (IP) as collateral?” he wrote.

Reflecting on insights gained from a recent CREAM platform event, he added: “I recently had the privilege of attending a powerful event hosted by the CREAM platform where thought leaders dove deep into this exact topic. The key takeaway? Content is the new crude. Just like oil built empires, your creative output has massive untapped value. So if you’re a creative, keep creating. Your IP isn’t just art, it’s an asset. One that can open doors to millions, even billions.”
