ASUU UNIJOS Begins Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid June Salaries

The University of Jos chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared an indefinite strike action due to the non-payment of its members’ salaries for June 2025.

According to a statement signed by UniJos ASUU Chairman, Professor Jurbe Molwus, it commenced at exactly midnight on Friday, July 4. The declaration follows a resolution adopted during the union’s congress held on June 4.

In the statement released to journalists in Jos, Plateau State, Prof. Molwus stressed that the strike complies with a standing directive from the union’s National Executive Council (NEC), which mandates branches to take immediate action if salaries are not paid by the third day of the new month.

“This is to request all members to abstain from lectures and statutory meetings if our salary for June is not paid by 11:59 p.m. on July 3,” the statement read.

“It is in line with the extant NEC resolution that any branch should act if salaries are delayed beyond the third day of a new month. It is also consistent with the Congress decision of June 4 reaffirming that stance.”

Professor Molwus urged all academic staff at the University of Jos to fully comply with the strike directive and refrain from all official academic duties until further notice. He added that a strike monitoring team would be mobilized to ensure strict enforcement of the action.
