Governor Umo Eno Raises Akwa Ibom NYSC Allowance to ₦20,000
Governor Umo Eno has raised Akwa Ibom NYSC allowance from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000 monthly.
The increase takes effect August 1, further strengthening youth support and corps member welfare.
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced a significant boost in monthly stipends for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the state, increasing the allowance from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000. The increase is scheduled to take effect from August 1, 2025.
The Governor made the declaration on Friday, July 4, during the second day of the State Delivery Meeting held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo. According to him, the decision is aimed at complementing the Federal Government’s recent adjustment of the national NYSC allowance to ₦77,000, bringing the total monthly support for corps members in Akwa Ibom to nearly ₦100,000.
“Over 10,000 corps members are posted to Akwa Ibom annually. We must continue to encourage and support them,” Governor Eno stated.
The new policy marks yet another step in his administration’s efforts to prioritize youth development and welfare. It comes shortly after the Governor approved the reconstruction of the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ikot Itie Idung, Nsit Atai Local Government Area an initiative targeted at improving the living and training conditions of incoming corps members.
The NYSC, established in 1973, is a national scheme designed to promote unity and national integration by deploying Nigerian graduates under 30 to serve in states other than their own. The scheme mandates one year of national service, during which corps members work in sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and public administration.
Akwa Ibom has long enjoyed a reputation as a corps-friendly state, with its hospitable communities, peaceful environment, and relative safety contributing to high satisfaction levels among participants. Many corps members have praised the state’s commitment to their wellbeing, citing steady allowances, responsive local authorities, and opportunities for impactful community service.
With this increase, Akwa Ibom becomes one of the few states in Nigeria offering a robust support package to corps members. It also reflects Governor Eno’s broader leadership philosophy centered on compassion, inclusive governance, and practical investment in the future of Nigerian youth.
The new stipend is expected to ease the financial burden on corps members, many of whom face challenges related to accommodation, feeding, and transportation during their service year. Stakeholders across the state have welcomed the announcement, describing it as a timely intervention and a commendable example for other states to follow.
By reinforcing state-level support for young graduates, Akwa Ibom is not only enhancing national integration efforts but also reaffirming its place as a forward-thinking state that values service, unity, and youth empowerment.
