Natasha’s “Propaganda” Must End, Says Arewa Group as Court Vindicates Akpabio
NEYGA has urged Senator Natasha to obey the court ruling affirming Senate disciplinary powers.
The group warned her actions risk eroding trust in Nigeria’s judiciary and legislative institutions.
The Northern Ethnic Youth Group Assembly (NEYGA) has urged suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to abide by the recent court decision that upheld the Senate’s right to discipline its members.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Alhaji Ibrahim Dan-Musa, the group urged the senator to halt what it described as “media theatrics” and comply with the verdict, which it said validated the Senate’s actions, including those taken by its President, Godswill Akpabio.
“The court judgment confirms that the Senate acted within its legal rights,” Dan-Musa said. “We call on Senator Natasha to stop painting herself as a victim. She should accept the ruling, pay any fines imposed, issue an apology, and focus on restoring dignity to Kogi Central.”
NEYGA expressed concern that the senator’s continued resistance and public campaigns could undermine public confidence in the judiciary and legislative institutions. The group emphasized that the issue was no longer about personal grievances but about upholding the authority of democratic institutions.
“If she truly represents the interests of her constituents, she will demonstrate leadership by respecting the law and the institutions that uphold it,” the statement read.
The group also commended the judiciary for what it described as a fair and impartial ruling, saying it reinforced the principle that no one is above the law. It defended Senate President Akpabio, stating that his actions were aimed at maintaining order within the legislative arm, not targeting individuals.
Finally, NEYGA appealed to the people of Kogi Central to demand accountability from their representative, stressing that leadership requires humility and respect for democratic processes.
