Nyesom Wike Reveals Condition to Quit as FCT Minister
Wike says he will resign if NDDC audit fails to expose Amaechi over alleged fraud.
He urges Tinubu to release the report, stressing Nigerians must know what truly happened.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said he is willing to resign from his post if the forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) fails to implicate former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
Wike made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” on Friday. He called on President Bola Tinubu to make the audit report public, insisting that Nigerians deserve to know the truth.
He accused Amaechi and his wife of benefitting from NDDC funds through a questionable training scheme. According to him, the former minister’s wife was linked to a company that received a monthly payment of N4 billion from the NDDC for the purpose of training women in the Niger Delta. He claimed the amount summed up to N48 billion in just one year.
Wike stated, “Amaechi’s wife company, every month, got N4 billion to train Niger Delta women. That is N48 billion in one year alone, and the forensic audit report is there. Who killed it?”
Urging the presidency to act, he added, “Mr President should help Nigerians. You see, this is what I have always said. Mr President should help Nigerians. Please, release the forensic audit of the NDDC.”
Reiterating his readiness to step down if the document does not confirm his allegations, Wike said, “If what I am saying is not in the document, I will resign as the Minister of the FCT. I said I will resign. I don’t worship office.”
His comments come amid renewed calls for transparency and accountability within federal agencies.
