Veteran Actor Taiwo Hassan Reflects on 7-Year Battle with Life-Threatening Illness

Actor Taiwo Hassan revealed he battled a life-threatening illness silently for seven difficult years.

The Nollywood veteran shared how pain and exhaustion nearly pushed him to give up completely.

Renowned Nollywood veteran Taiwo Hassan, fondly known as ‘Ogogo’, has opened up about a deeply painful chapter of his life his quiet but intense seven-year battle with a mysterious illness that nearly cost him his life.

In an emotional interview with Oyinmomo TV, the iconic Yoruba film actor recounted how the prolonged illness left him physically weak and spiritually tested. According to Ogogo, he was so debilitated during this period that he could only manage to eat pap (a soft maize meal) and had to pray while seated, as standing was no longer possible because of constant pain and extreme exhaustion.

“For a good seven years, I prayed while sitting, and I couldn’t eat anything except pap. It was a terrible period of my life. When I started collecting different kinds of treatments and going from place to place, I thanked both men and women,” he shared.

Despite the severity of his condition, Ogogo said he never sold any of his properties, and while his health kept him away from film locations, he held onto hope and refused to surrender completely until a point when he feared the end was near.

The actor revealed that during his lowest moment, he even discarded his “Mecca teeth” a symbolic Islamic item many pilgrims hold dear as a gesture of surrender to fate, believing he might not survive the ordeal.

Ogogo’s story has since moved fans and colleagues alike, sparking a wave of sympathy, prayers, and admiration online. Many praised his resilience, humility, and strength, commending him for surviving such a trying experience without seeking public pity.

Now recovered and back in the public eye, Taiwo Hassan’s candid revelation has shed light on the personal battles many public figures quietly endure behind the scenes and the power of faith, determination, and inner strength in overcoming them.
