IGP Egbetokun Deploys New Police Commissioners to Five States to Boost Security

IGP Egbetokun has deployed new police commissioners to five states to improve security operations.

The appointments aim to strengthen leadership and boost crime-fighting capacity across critical regions.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the deployment of new Commissioners of Police to five states Borno, Cross River, Ondo, Osun, and Jigawa as part of efforts to enhance security operations across the country.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Saturday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi. According to the statement, the new postings take immediate effect and are aimed at strengthening leadership at the state command level and improving the Nigeria Police Force’s overall operational capacity.

Adejobi explained that this move is in line with the IGP’s broader strategy to tackle insecurity, promote professionalism, and drive effective policing throughout the country.

“These postings are in furtherance of the IGP’s vision to ensure professional leadership in critical areas and enhance the operational effectiveness of the Force,” the statement read.

The IGP has tasked the newly appointed Commissioners with the responsibility of upholding high standards of conduct, ensuring effective crime fighting, and restoring public confidence in the police within their respective states.

“He charges them to uphold the principles of professionalism and quality leadership towards ensuring their various states are rid of criminal elements who threaten national security,” Adejobi added.

The newly appointed Commissioners of Police and their postings include:

  • CP Naziru D. Abdulmajid – Borno State Command
  • CP Bello Rasheed Afegbua – Cross River State Command
  • CP Dahiru Mohammed – Jigawa State Command
  • CP Adebowale Lawal – Ondo State Command
  • CP Ibrahim Gotan – Osun State Command
  • CP Eloho Edwin Okpoziakpo – Department of Training and Development, Force Headquarters
  • CP Olusegun Eyitayo Omosayin – FCID Annex, Gombe State, as CP General Investigation

The police headquarters noted that the decision to redeploy these senior officers was influenced by their broad experience in law enforcement and their proven track records in various policing roles. The aim is to harness their expertise in boosting safety, reducing crime, and maintaining law and order in their new commands.

In his closing remarks, the IGP reassured Nigerians of the police force’s continued dedication to building a safer society. He also appealed to the public to partner with the police by remaining vigilant and sharing useful information that could assist in curbing crime.

“The IGP, while reassuring members of the public of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to ensuring a safer and more secure nation, has called for the continued support and collaboration of citizens in the collective fight against crime and criminality,” Adejobi stated.

The redeployment comes at a time when various parts of the country are grappling with security challenges such as banditry, kidnapping, and communal clashes. With this fresh wave of appointments, the police leadership hopes to reinforce its presence, improve response times, and ensure effective law enforcement across all affected regions.
