Katsina Government Says It Is Ready to Rehabilitate Repentant Terrorists

Katsina State says it will rehabilitate terrorists who surrender and embrace peace, offering education and support.

The government insists on no negotiations but promises reintegration for those who voluntarily disarm.

The Katsina State government has reaffirmed its commitment to rehabilitating individuals involved in terrorism who are ready to surrender and embrace peace.

This assurance was given by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Bala Zango, during an interaction with journalists in Minna, Niger State. Zango was attending the quarterly meeting of Information Commissioners from states governed by the All Progressives Congress (APC), hosted by the Niger State Ministry of Information. The event focused on “Strategic Communication and Policy Alignment.”

Speaking on the security situation in Katsina, Zango said the state has recorded major improvements, noting that terrorist activity has dropped by as much as 70 percent. He explained that only some forested and border communities remain areas of concern. The commissioner attributed this progress to the ongoing security efforts and policies implemented by the state government.

Despite maintaining a strict stance of non-negotiation with terrorists, Zango said the administration remains open to rehabilitating those who voluntarily disarm.

“Any bandit that decides to lay down his arms and embrace peace will be rehabilitated and given support and assistance,” he said.

He further explained that individuals who renounce violence will be helped to reintegrate through proper education and other forms of social support. “We will rehabilitate them, give them a lot of support and proper education to make them full members of society,” Zango added.

The government believes that supporting those who choose peace is essential to building long-term security and reducing violence across the state.
