NECO Releases 2025 BECE Results, Sets July 23–24 for Re-Sit Exams
NECO has released the 2025 BECE results for junior secondary students across Nigeria.
Over 179,000 candidates sat for the exams, with resits scheduled for July 23 and 24.
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), conducted for final-year junior secondary school students across Nigeria.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, by Azeez Sani, NECO Acting Director of Public Affairs, during the BECE Award Committee meeting held at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
According to NECO, a total of 179,201 candidates registered for the examination, which covered 12 subjects. The exams commenced on May 12, 2025, and concluded on May 23, 2025, without major incident.
Sani stated that the prompt release of the results was made possible by the successful conclusion of the 2025 BECE Award Committee Meeting, a body responsible for validating the exam process and outcomes.
“All relevant quality assurance measures were followed, and the release reflects NECO’s ongoing commitment to timely and credible examination processes,” he said.
Folake David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education and Chairperson of the BECE Award Committee, expressed satisfaction with the examination process and the integrity of the results.
“We are pleased with the professionalism and rigour displayed by NECO throughout the examination period, from administration to marking and collation,” she noted.
The committee, which included NECO officials, representatives from the education ministry, and secondary school principals from various states, affirmed the fairness and technical soundness of the examination process.
In addition to approving the results, the Award Committee also endorsed the timetable for the 2025 BECE re-sit, which targets students who did not pass Mathematics or English Studies, two core subjects required for promotion to senior secondary school.
NECO has fixed the resit for July 23 and 24, 2025, respectively.
“This re-sit provides a second chance for candidates who narrowly missed the pass mark in key subjects,” NECO stated.
The release of the BECE results comes amid growing discussions about exam reform in Nigeria. The Federal Government recently hinted at a possible transition to computer-based testing (CBT) for both WAEC and NECO exams by 2026, sparking debate among stakeholders about preparedness and digital infrastructure gaps.
