INEC Unveils Digital Platform, Confirms 129 Party Applications

INEC says 129 groups have applied to register as political parties, with seven new this week.

It also unveiled a new digital platform to simplify and track political party registration processes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that it has so far received 129 applications from various groups interested in becoming registered political parties in Nigeria.

This update was shared after the commission’s regular weekly meeting held on Thursday, July 10, 2025. According to a statement released by Sam Olumekun, who serves as the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, seven new applications were submitted in the last week alone, pushing the total number of applications to 129. He explained that all submitted requests are currently going through the appropriate processing stages.

In addition to this, INEC has introduced a new digital platform aimed at improving the registration process for political parties. The portal is part of a larger initiative known as the Party Financial Reporting and Auditing System.

Olumekun added that the commission is in the final phase of testing the platform, which is expected to be fully ready in the coming week. The goal of this new system is to make registration easier, more transparent, and more efficient for all political groups wishing to join the electoral space.
