June Salary Delay Being Addressed, Says Accountant-General’s Office
OAGF blames Zenith Bank glitch for June salary delays, assures civil servants of swift resolution.
Officials say wage award arrears are also being addressed as corrective efforts remain underway.
The Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) has responded to concerns raised by civil servants over the non-payment of June salaries, attributing the issue to a technical fault at Zenith Bank Plc.
In a statement on Thursday, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the OAGF, Bawa Mokwa, explained that the payment delay affected employees in various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) whose accounts are managed by Zenith Bank.
“Upon investigation, it was discovered that the salary payments for employees across various MDAs were affected due to a technical network glitch in the bank,” Mokwa said.
He acknowledged the frustration caused by the delayed payments, especially given the financial responsibilities public servants shoulder. “We deeply regret the inconvenience this unfortunate incident has caused and wish to assure all affected employees that immediate steps have been taken to resolve the issue,” he added.
According to Mokwa, the OAGF is currently working with relevant service providers and stakeholders to reprocess all failed payments without further delay.
“We appeal to all affected staff of the federal public service to remain calm and rest assured that no effort will be spared in ensuring everyone receives their rightful salaries,” he said.
He further noted that concrete actions had already been taken to identify the source of the problem and that corrective processes were actively underway. “The welfare of Federal Government employees remains a top priority of the OAGF,” Mokwa reiterated.
In addition to resolving the June salary issue, Mokwa said the OAGF was also working to complete the payment of outstanding arrears for the N35,000 wage award, which covers four months and affects several government workers.
He emphasized the agency’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and efficient payroll management. “We are open to continuous engagement with stakeholders to ensure sustained improvements in our service delivery,” Mokwa said, thanking civil servants for their patience and understanding.
