Iyanya Recounts Painful Period of Losing Three Family Members in Two Years

Iyanya recalls heartbreaking moment he lost both parents and a brother within just two years.

The Afrobeats singer shared how tragedy struck during key moments in his rising music career.

Afrobeats star Iyanya has opened up about a deeply emotional period in his life, recalling how he lost three close family members within two years.

During an interview with Hero Daniels, the singer revealed that the series of heartbreaking events started with the death of his father, which happened just days before a major moment in his career.

Iyanya said: “The lowest point of my life, I would say, losing my family. I lost three people in about two years. My dad passed about seven or eight days to me being recruited.”

He shared that not long after his father’s death, his brother also passed away, adding to the grief. The most difficult moment, he recalled, came on the day he was set to perform, when he got the devastating news that his mother had died.

“Immediately, I came out, and it was my brother who followed. I met my mom. The day my mom died, I had a show. I was backstage. I think like four minutes into my performance, my mom’s junior brother was calling me back to back.

“So I picked the call, he goes, your mom is dead. And we are also in this era where private love lacks verification. Because the norm is everybody showing off flowers, dates, kisses on social media.”

Iyanya’s revelation highlights the personal struggles that can hide behind public success, reminding fans that even those in the spotlight face moments of deep pain.
