Mr. Joseph Aloba, father of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has shared a deeply emotional account of his son’s final moments in an interview with controversial activist and commentator VeryDarkMan (VDM).

The sit-down makes Mr. Aloba the fifth individual close to the ongoing case surrounding Mohbad’s mysterious death on September 12, 2023, to be interviewed by VDM. It comes just days after the social critic spoke with a close friend of the late singer, adding further weight to the public’s demand for justice and clarity.
In the video shared via VeryDarkMan’s Instagram page, Mr. Aloba recounted how what initially seemed like a routine health scare spiraled into the darkest moment of his life.
According to him, at around 4:30 p.m. on the fateful day, he received a call from Mohbad’s mother, fondly known as Iya Moh, informing him that their son had been taken to the hospital and wasn’t feeling well. He decided to wait so they could go together.
“She came with Wunmi’s aunty, Iya Tunde, and we got on a ferry,” he recalled.
While they were on their way, a flurry of calls came in. One particular call from Darosha, Mohbad’s cousin and close associate, stood out. Mr. Aloba said Darosha tried to convince him to return home, assuring him that Mohbad was stable and receiving treatment.
“But I refused,” he said. “I knew something was wrong.”
By 6:30 p.m., they had arrived at Osapa London bus stop, and his worry deepened. When they finally reached the residence around 9:00 p.m., the scene that greeted him was chilling.
“The first thing I saw was a duvet soaked in blood. I was confused,” he said, visibly shaken.
He was then called downstairs by Mohbad’s friend, Lifestyle, where he was met with the horrifying sight of his son’s lifeless body on the floor, surrounded by Islamic clerics. The house, he said, was filled with people, among them were popular artist Zlatan, DJ Bami, Mohbad’s legal representative, and Darosha.
He added that Wunmi, Mohbad’s wife, was in tears and claimed that the singer had reacted badly to an injection. As a pastor, Mr. Aloba said he rejected that explanation immediately.
More unsettling details, he alleged, unfolded when they arrived at the police station. According to him, while trying to make a formal statement, an officer told him he would not be issued a police report because he didn’t report the death “on time.”
He further claimed that Wunmi had access to the doctor’s report but failed to reveal it and that his son’s body was embalmed in the house without his knowledge or consent. Even more troubling, he said, was that the morgue refused to accept Mohbad’s remains that night.
As public pressure mounts on the authorities to conclude the investigation into what many still consider a suspicious death, Mr. Aloba’s emotional account adds fresh weight to an already complex and tragic story that continues to grip the nation.
