Kemi Olunloyo Says Buhari Has Met Her Father at the Gates of Hell

Kemi Olunloyo stirs outrage over fiery remarks on Buhari’s death, calls it “reunion in hell.”

She accuses late president of media repression, says his death signals symbolic freedom.

Controversial Nigerian journalist Dr. Kemi Olunloyo has ignited backlash online with her fiery response to the reported death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari, who allegedly died in London at the age of 82, served both as Nigeria’s military Head of State and later as a two-term civilian president. While tributes have poured in from across the country, Olunloyo took a sharply contrasting tone in her reaction.

Posting on her Facebook page, the outspoken journalist said she felt no sorrow over Buhari’s passing. Instead, she described it as a reunion in damnation between the late president and her father, Victor Omololu Olunloyo, a former governor of Oyo State.

“BREAKING. Finally, Buhari and my father, Olunloyo, meet for the FIRST TIME at the Gates of Hell. Same year, 2025,” she wrote.

Olunloyo went on to accuse Buhari of suppressing press freedom during his time in power. She blamed him for the fall of Nigeria’s Second Republic in 1983 and alleged that he jailed and even executed journalists during his military rule.

“I hope Ayisha remarries and everyone he locked up is released. Let the journalists he executed during his military reign continue to rest in peace,” she stated.

She also questioned the truth behind Buhari’s reported age, implying that the former leader may have been older than the official 82 years.

“I hope his family can now tell the world he was 89 and not 82. He was 48, the same age as my dad in 1983 when he took over Shagari’s democracy. Only you? He was the leader of Nigeria when I was 19, 51, and 55,” she added.

In a final jab, Olunloyo linked the date of Buhari’s reported death to that of Wole Soyinka’s birthday, interpreting it as symbolic.

She wrote, “a sign of freedom,” suggesting that the Nobel Laureate’s birthday coinciding with Buhari’s death held deeper meaning.

Her post has since generated intense debate, with many Nigerians condemning her tone as insensitive, while others defended her right to speak her truth.
