President Bola Tinubu has announced a seven-day national mourning period in honor of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari. As part of the tribute, all national flags are to be flown at half-mast across the country.
Tinubu has also called for an emergency Federal Executive Council meeting to be held on Tuesday. He confirmed that Buhari will receive full state honors. A gathering of Nigeria’s former and current leaders is expected to take place in Daura today, where Buhari will be laid to rest in line with Islamic customs.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, following Tinubu’s instruction, brought Buhari’s body back from London. The former leader died around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday after battling a prolonged illness.
