Yemi Solade Apologises to Afeez Owo Over 20-Year-Old On-Set Slap

Yemi Solade apologises for slapping Afeez Owo during a movie shoot over 20 years ago.

He admitted the incident happened in Ibadan after a blackout disrupted the film production.

Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has publicly apologised to fellow actor and filmmaker Afeez Abiodun, popularly known as Afeez Owo, for slapping him during a film shoot over two decades ago.

Speaking during a recent interview on ‘Behind the Fame African A-List’, Solade revisited the long-buried incident, which he said occurred on a movie set in a town on the outskirts of Ibadan. At the time, Afeez held the role of production manager on the project.

According to Solade, the crew had just wrapped filming when the location was suddenly thrown into darkness due to a power outage. Frustrated by the situation and Afeez’s perceived indifference, Solade admitted he lost his cool.

“Let me apologise to Afeez Abiodun. I slapped him once. He was the production manager of a movie, I can’t recall the year exactly. We got to the town outskirts of Ibadan, and when we finished filming, there was a blackout,” Solade explained.

“As the production manager, he was the one we’d lay our accusations and frustrations on. It got me infuriated because he wasn’t taking me seriously, and that slap came from nowhere, in the dark. I didn’t like that.”

He added that Afeez left the location early the following morning without confronting him, and the moment has lingered in his memory ever since.

“Afeez, I’m sorry. Mabinu simi (please don’t be angry with me). It’s been a long time, like 20 years. I’ve complained bitterly to some people before, but let me just stick to Afeez directly. I don’t like insults, and that could be my weakness.”
