“Buhari Wasn’t an Economist, Don’t Blame One Man for Nigeria’s Woes” says Tunde Bakare
Tunde Bakare says Buhari shouldn’t bear full blame for Nigeria’s lingering economic troubles alone.
He recalls confronting Buhari privately on national issues but defends balanced accountability in leadership.
Pastor Tunde Bakare has weighed in on the legacy of former President Muhammadu Buhari, urging Nigerians to avoid placing the blame for the country’s economic challenges solely on the late leader.

Speaking during an interview with TVC News, Bakare reflected on his interactions with Buhari, acknowledging that while he had been a vocal critic of the administration, he had also raised concerns with the former president in private.
Although he declined to reveal the full details of their private discussions, Bakare confirmed that he confronted Buhari on several pressing national matters, including the controversial raid on the residence of Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Igboho. According to him, Buhari denied being aware of the operation before it occurred.
Addressing Buhari’s economic legacy, Bakare stated: “General Buhari was not an economist. He had people that were in charge of that. Some of the economic decisions made back then we’re still seeing the effect in our nation today. But it will be wrong to put everything on the head of one man. Jonathan was accused of mismanagement, corruption, this and that…”
