Eedris Abdulkareem Tells Politicians to Show Empathy While Alive
Eedris Abdulkareem says leaders who want sympathy in death must show empathy while alive.
Reacting to Buhari’s death, he insists legacy is judged by one’s actions, not titles or power.
Veteran Nigerian rapper Eedris Abdulkareem has issued a pointed message to political leaders in the wake of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s death, urging them to lead with compassion if they hope to be remembered with kindness.

Buhari passed away on Sunday at a UK clinic after reportedly battling leukaemia. While many political allies have flooded social media with tributes, a significant number of Nigerians have responded with harsh criticisms, recalling what they described as a legacy of hardship and disappointment.
Amid the emotional divide, former senator Shehu Sani took to his platform to appeal for calm, saying, “A living man is still on trial and cannot judge the dead. Let the sleeping soul rest.”
But Abdulkareem took a more direct tone in his Instagram post, making it clear that public sympathy is earned, not automatic.
“If you want sympathy in death, then you must show empathy when alive,” he wrote. “Your legacies after life are consequences of your deeds. Innalilahi wa innalilahi rajuhun.”
Known for his outspoken activism and socially conscious lyrics, Abdulkareem’s statement resonated with many Nigerians who feel that politicians often ignore the suffering of the people while in power but expect honor and reverence in death.
