Presidency Postpones Special FEC Session for Late President Buhari
The special FEC session to honor late President Buhari has been postponed due to his state burial.
A new date will be announced later as his remains arrive Tuesday for final rites in Daura.
The special Federal Executive Council (FEC) session planned for Tuesday, July 15, 2025, to honor the late former President Muhammadu Buhari has been postponed, the Presidency announced on Monday.
According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the meeting has been put on hold due to Buhari’s state burial taking place the same day in Daura, Katsina State.
“The meeting will no longer be held as announced earlier, given the state funeral in his hometown, Daura, on the same day,” the statement read.
It added that the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation will announce a new date after the funeral.
The announcement comes as the Federal Government declared Tuesday, July 15, a public holiday in honor of the late leader.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier directed that a special FEC session be held to pay tribute to Buhari for his service and contributions to Nigeria.
Buhari’s body is expected to arrive in Nigeria from London by noon on Tuesday. He will be buried in his hometown, Daura, in accordance with Islamic rites.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu has dispatched Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to London to join the Buhari family, offer condolences, and accompany the remains back to Nigeria.
