Sonia Ighalo Condemns Nigerians Celebrating Buhari’s Death, Urges Empathy
Sonia Ighalo criticizes Nigerians celebrating Buhari’s death, urging empathy over political bitterness.
She reminds the public that death is universal and should be met with basic human compassion.
Sonia Ighalo, the ex-wife of Nigerian football star Jude Ighalo, has voiced her disapproval over the reactions of some Nigerians who publicly celebrated the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing such responses as lacking in empathy and humanity.

Taking to Instagram, Sonia urged the public to show empathy despite political or ideological differences. While acknowledging the valid criticisms of Buhari’s leadership, she emphasized that death is a deeply human moment that should be met with compassion.
“Nigerians seem to lack empathy. This is someone’s father, husband, uncle and son,” she wrote. “Must you all display your caprine tendencies even when calamity befalls? While criticisms of his leadership are valid, celebrating his death misses our shared humanity.”
She concluded her post with a reminder of life’s inevitable end, stating: “Death is the final chapter we ALL must face, and in that reality, empathy should always prevail.”
