Drama as May Edochie’s Legal Team Withdraws Over Fan Harassment
May Edochie’s lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, has stepped down from her divorce case against Yul Edochie.
The legal team blamed online attacks from May’s fans, saying it affected their ability to work.
In an unexpected development, Emeka Ugwuonye, the legal counsel for Nollywood actress May Edochie in her divorce proceedings against Yul Edochie, has formally stepped down from representing her. The announcement was made via a statement posted on the Facebook page of Due Process Advocates (DPA), the family law firm handling the case.
According to the statement, the firm cited persistent harassment and online bullying from May’s fanbase, popularly referred to as “May Nation,” as the primary reason for their decision. The hostile atmosphere, they said, made it difficult to continue providing effective legal services.
“The hostile environment fostered by certain individuals within the ‘May Nation’ group has made it untenable for us to continue effective representation,” the firm stated.
DPA also pointed out the ethical dilemma in pursuing justice for May while facing aggressive behavior from those claiming to support her. “It becomes profoundly difficult to act against those who bullied Queen May when her own fans exhibit even greater hostility,” they added.
Despite their withdrawal, the law firm reaffirmed their support for May, describing her as a victim of marital betrayal and abuse. They condemned the actions of her estranged husband, Yul Edochie, and his second wife, Judy, while pledging their opposition to forced polygamy.
DPA further assured the public that they would fully cooperate with May’s new legal team to ensure a smooth handover. In a final note, the firm announced plans to pursue legal action against a prominent figure in the “May Nation” group, identified by the pseudonym “Judy Obasiyul Autisn.”
