Kano Govt Orders Probe into Killing of Two Students in Bichi School Attack
Kano State has launched a full investigation into the killing of two students in Bichi hostel.
Twelve suspects are in custody as officials vow justice and tighter safety in school environments.
The Kano State Government has launched a full-scale investigation into the killing of two students of Government Secondary School, Bichi, following a brutal assault allegedly carried out by fellow students.
Dr. Ali Makoda, the Commissioner for Education, ordered the probe on Wednesday after it was confirmed that the victims, Hamza Tofawa and Umar Dungurawa, were attacked and killed in their hostel late Sunday night. Preliminary findings suggest they were lured by a group of senior students and beaten with improvised metal rods known locally as “Gwale-Gwale.”
Two other students, Aliyu M. Nasir and Ibrahim Ibrahim, sustained serious injuries in the same attack and are currently receiving treatment at Bichi General Hospital.
The Kano State Police Command confirmed the incident and reported that twelve suspects have been arrested in connection with the case. Authorities are still working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Education’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Balarabe Kiru, Commissioner Makoda vowed that justice would be served. Speaking through the Permanent Secretary, Bashir Muhammad, the commissioner condemned the act and stressed that violence has no place in schools.
“We strongly advise students to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. Any concern or suspicion should be reported to school authorities for appropriate action,” he said.
Makoda also extended the state government’s condolences to the bereaved families, assuring them that steps would be taken to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Also responding to the development, Abbas Abdullahi, Director of the Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board, said the board would leave no stone unturned in uncovering the whole truth behind the incident.
“This is a heartbreaking event, and we are fully committed to working with security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation and appropriate disciplinary measures,” he stated.
The investigation is ongoing, and updates are expected in the coming days as more details emerge from both the school and law enforcement authorities.
