11 Students Arrested Over Death of Two Schoolmates in Kano
Eleven students have been arrested after two classmates died in a shocking school-related incident.
Kano authorities are digging deeper into how deadly weapons reached the boarding school environment.
The Kano State Police Command has arrested 11 students of Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi, in connection with the death of two fellow students.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the development on Thursday. He stated that investigations are ongoing to uncover the extent of each suspect’s involvement in the incident.
“We have taken 11 students into custody in connection with the case. Investigations are underway to determine their individual roles,” Haruna said.
He added that the police would ensure a thorough and transparent investigation and that anyone found culpable would face legal action.
Following the incident, the state Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, has ordered a full investigation into the tragic event. This directive was conveyed on Wednesday during a visit to the school by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Bashir Bappa Mohammad.
The deceased students were identified as Hamza Idris Tofawa and Umar Yusuf Dungurawa. Reports indicate they were attacked by their schoolmates using sharp, improvised metal objects known locally as “Gwale-Gwale.”
Authorities say the probe will examine how such items made their way into the school and the circumstances that led to the attack.
