Borno Government to Launch Health and Wellness Program for Civil Servants

Borno State is introducing a wellness scheme and awards to boost workers’ fitness and motivation.

The initiative includes sports, reforms, and digital upgrades to strengthen service delivery statewide.

The Borno State Government has revealed plans to introduce a new health and wellness program for its civil servants. This initiative is designed to promote better health and ensure workers remain physically fit and mentally alert while carrying out their responsibilities.

Speaking to reporters in Maiduguri during the 2025 Civil Service Week, the Head of Service, Dr. Muhammad Ghuluze, explained that the scheme would focus on sporting events and other wellness-related activities. According to him, a healthy workforce is crucial for delivering efficient service and driving the state forward.

He stressed the importance of having a vibrant and capable civil service, stating that workers who are unwell or not fit can no longer meet the demands of modern public service. β€œThe civil service of today cannot afford to accommodate unhealthy and unfit personnel,” Ghuluze said.

In addition to the wellness plan, he announced the upcoming launch of the 2025 Borno State Civil Service Innovation Award. This award will recognize and reward exceptional performance among workers.

Dr. Ghuluze also outlined other reforms, including the setup of monitoring and taskforce committees, the start of mentorship programs, and the introduction of SERVICOM principles to enhance accountability and public confidence.

He further mentioned that the state is working towards fully digitizing all civil service activities to meet current technological standards. Civil servants were encouraged to remain dedicated, embrace discipline, and adopt innovative approaches to their work.
