Dele Momodu Dumps PDP for ADC, Cites Anti-Democratic Forces

Dele Momodu quits PDP, slams internal hijack by anti-democratic forces, joins African Democratic Congress instead.

He says ADC offers clarity, inclusion and fresh political air missing in the PDP structure.

Veteran journalist and politician Dele Momodu has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing the growing influence of what he called “anti-democratic forces” within the PDP.

Momodu, who was the PDP presidential aspirant in the run-up to the 2023 elections, announced on Thursday, bringing an end to months of speculation about his political future.

In his resignation statement, Momodu decried what he described as a gradual erosion of internal democracy within the PDP. He accused the party of being hijacked by power blocs more concerned with personal interests than with democratic values or national development.

“It has become increasingly clear that the ideals I have fought for, transparency, justice, and inclusive governance, are being suffocated by anti-democratic forces within the PDP,” he said.

Momodu emphasized that his decision to leave the party was not driven by personal ambition but by a desire to associate with a platform that reflects his commitment to good governance, youth inclusion, and credible electoral processes.

Explaining his move to the African Democratic Congress, Momodu praised the party’s openness, ideological clarity, and its emphasis on grassroots participation.

“The ADC represents a breath of fresh air in Nigeria’s political landscape. It is a platform that welcomes diversity of thought and places integrity over impunity,” he added.

He pledged to make meaningful contributions to the party’s growth and to help reposition it as a viable alternative in Nigeria’s evolving democratic landscape.

Dele Momodu is a prominent media figure and the publisher of ‘Ovation International’. He previously contested for the presidency in 2011 under the National Conscience Party and later joined the PDP, where he played a vocal role in party affairs.

With the 2027 general elections on the horizon, his defection to the ADC is expected to reshape political alignments, particularly among opposition ranks.
