FG Restates Plan to Go Fully Paperless by End of 2025

Over 34,000 workers are now using official platforms as Nigeria moves toward digital governance.

The government aims to fully automate processes across ministries and agencies before the 2025 deadline.

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its target of making Nigeria’s Civil Service completely paperless by December 31, 2025.

This was made known by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, during an official visit to the Abuja headquarters of Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB), the government’s digital infrastructure agency. She revealed that over 34,000 civil servants have already been enrolled on the “War Room” platform powered by Galaxy Backbone. The platform facilitates the use of official government emails (GovMail) and promotes more efficient communication and service delivery across ministries and agencies.

Walson-Jack commended Galaxy Backbone for its robust digital infrastructure, including fibre-optic connectivity spread across 28 states, which she described as vital to achieving Nigeria’s digital transformation goals.

While touring the facility, she inspected key digital assets such as the National Shared Services Centre, Network Operations Centre (NOC), Security Operations Centre (SOC), and a Uptime Institute-certified Tier III Data Centre, all designed to bolster Nigeria’s digital public service infrastructure.

She was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Mr. Adeladan Rafiu, as well as other senior government officials. The purpose of the visit, according to Walson-Jack, was to explore deeper collaboration between her office and Galaxy Backbone.

“This visit has opened my eyes to the enormous potential and capacity Galaxy Backbone brings to Nigeria’s digital journey,” she said. “I now see GBB not just as an ICT agency, but as a strategic partner in building a modern, agile, and paperless Civil Service.”

She emphasized several areas for future collaboration, including the full implementation of the 1Government Cloud to host the operations of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), the deployment of an Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS) to automate workflows, and coordinated training between Galaxy Backbone’s Cloud Academy and the Civil Service Academy.

In response, Galaxy Backbone’s Managing Director and CEO, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, expressed gratitude for the visit and reiterated the agency’s commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s digital transformation agenda.
