INEC Sets Date for 2025 Bye-Elections in 12 States
INEC has fixed August 16 for bye-elections in 16 constituencies across 12 Nigerian states.
Only registered voters with PVCs will be allowed to vote using the BVAS system.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that bye-elections for 2025 will be conducted on Saturday, August 16, across 16 constituencies in 12 Nigerian states.
In a public notice, INEC explained that the elections are being held to fill vacant seats in federal constituencies, state assemblies, and senatorial districts. Voting will begin at 8:30 a.m. in all designated polling units within the affected areas.
INEC also reminded Nigerians that only those with valid Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and whose names are on the voters’ register will be permitted to vote, as the “No PVC, No Voting” rule remains in effect.
To ensure transparency, the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be used for voter identification and accreditation during the polls.
The commission called on citizens to follow all electoral guidelines and maintain peace throughout the exercise, stressing its commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that every vote counts.
