UNIMED Registrar Killed in Suspected Assassination Just Six Months After Appointment

UNIMED registrar found dead in Akure home, Ondo police confirm suspected assassination case.

Authorities urge public support as probe deepens into mysterious killing of 41-year-old official.

Police authorities in Ondo State have confirmed that the Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Mr. Ezekiel Adeniran, was murdered in what is believed to be a targeted attack.

Mr. Adeniran, aged 41, was found dead in his home in Akure, the state capital, on Thursday morning. He had been appointed Registrar of the institution only six months ago, in January 2025.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ondo State, Olayinka Ayanlade, told reporters that early findings point to assassination.

“The man was killed. That much I can confirm,” Ayanlade said. “The report was made at the Fanibi Division, and based on the information available, two men were seen emerging from a bush. They reportedly forced a substance into someone’s mouth. I can’t say exactly where this happened, but our main focus now is to identify who is responsible.”

The PPRO added that police investigators are working hard to uncover the full details behind the killing. He also urged members of the public with useful information to assist law enforcement in tracking down those involved. He promised that any tipoff would be treated with utmost secrecy.

“If you have any information, please come forward. We are open to help and we will handle all information confidentially,” Ayanlade assured.

The university has also reacted to the shocking news. In a statement released by the institution’s Head of Media and Protocol, Mr. Isaac Oluyi, the management expressed deep sorrow over the loss.

“The sad news has thrown the university community into mourning. It was completely unexpected,” the statement read. “Mr. Adeniran was present at work as recently as Monday, July 14, 2025. At this time, we still do not know the exact cause of his death.”

As investigations continue, the university and state authorities have called for calm while assuring the public that efforts are underway to ensure justice is served.
