Osun Senator Quits PDP in Latest Party Defection
Two Osun senators have resigned from PDP, citing unresolved internal rifts and legal conflicts.
Their exits highlight growing cracks in the party ahead of future political realignments.
Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, who represents Osun Central in the National Assembly, has officially resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing long-standing internal divisions and unresolved legal disputes within the party.
In a resignation letter dated July 12, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward 3 Chairman in Oke Ejigbo, Ila Orangun, Osun State, Fadeyi stated that his decision was prompted by irreconcilable differences and factional conflicts that have plagued the party for years.
“I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect,” the letter read in part. He added that his decision followed extensive consultations with his political allies, family members, and close associates.
Confirming the letter in a message on Saturday in Osogbo, the Senator reiterated his stance and affirmed the authenticity of the communication.
Fadeyi’s departure follows closely on the heels of another resignation by Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East. Fadahunsi, who is serving his second term, also left the PDP citing similar concerns.
His own resignation letter, dated June 12, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman, appeared on social media on Saturday morning. The Senator later confirmed its authenticity through a brief text message response: “YES.”
In the letter, Fadahunsi explained that he could no longer remain in a party battling persistent legal wranglings and internal divisions since the 2023 general elections. He said the decision was also reached after thoughtful deliberations with trusted political and personal contacts.
Both lawmakers urged their party officials to accept their decisions in good faith, marking a significant development in Osun State’s political landscape as the PDP continues to grapple with national-level instability.
