FCT Police Investigate Attack on Anambra PDP Governorship Candidate Ezenwafor
PDP’s Jude Ezenwafor survives gun attack in Abuja ahead of Anambra 2025 governorship race.
Police begin probe as supporters react with prayers and calls for justice and peace.
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has launched an investigation into the attempted assassination of Jude Ezenwafor, the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate for the 2025 Anambra election. The incident occurred on Friday night in Abuja.
Ezenwafor was reportedly attacked near Wuse 2 while returning from an outing. Unknown gunmen shot him in both legs, and two others were also injured in the attack.
On Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, said the investigation is still ongoing. She urged the public to support the police by sharing helpful information.
“The police command is yet to conclude investigations as touching the true position and situation surrounding the incident. While investigation is currently at top gear, individuals or persons with relevant information are advised to come forward and report to the nearest police station. Your cooperation will greatly assist our investigation and help ensure justice is served,” she said.
Reports said Ezenwafor is receiving treatment at a private hospital, where doctors are planning surgery to remove bullets from his legs. Aide to the politician confirmed the attack but declined to speak further. “Yes, it happened. But it’s not something I want to talk about now, please,” the aide said.
Videos showing Ezenwafor’s injuries later appeared on a PDP Anambra campaign platform. In one of the clips, the politician thanked God for saving his life.
The attack has sparked outrage among political supporters. Chinedu Nsofor, a senatorial candidate for the upcoming August 16 Anambra South bye-election, condemned the shooting and prayed for peace across the nation.
“I pray for divine intervention in our land. May the Almighty God protect every sincere leader and candidate from the snare of the wicked. May Nigeria rise again with a new order of safety, unity, and progress,” Nsofor said.
