FG, WAEC Dismiss Rumors of 2025 Exam Cancellation, Assure Public of Result Release by August 4

WAEC and Federal Government deny rumors of 2025 exam cancellations, calling reports completely false.

Public urged to ignore fake news and follow only official channels for accurate information.

The Federal Government and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have jointly denied widespread rumors that the 2025 WAEC and NECO examinations have been cancelled, describing the reports as false, misleading, and aimed at causing unnecessary panic.

In separate statements issued on Sunday, both the Ministry of Education and WAEC debunked the viral claims circulating on social media, which alleged that the exams had been nullified due to widespread malpractice and the digital leakage of question papers.

The Federal Ministry of Education, through its Director of Press, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, clarified that no such directive was issued and reiterated its full commitment to maintaining the integrity and orderly conduct of national examinations. “The Ministry categorically distances itself from the fake news and urges the public to rely solely on credible, verified sources,” Boriowo said.

Similarly, WAEC, through its Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, confirmed that the marking of exam scripts had just been concluded and that results for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) would be released on or before Monday, August 4, 2025.

“The WAEC Management would like to state unequivocally that the spurious press statement being circulated did not emanate from the Council. The said examination has not been cancelled,” WAEC said in its official statement.

The Council also assured candidates, parents, and stakeholders that no formal report of widespread malpractice had been received and that all reported incidents were isolated and promptly addressed.

Additionally, the Ministry reaffirmed that the 2025 National Examinations Council (NECO) exams are proceeding nationwide as scheduled, further disproving claims of any cancellations.

Both WAEC and the Ministry urged the public to disregard the fake reports and seek updates only from official websites www.waecnigeria.org, www.neco.gov.ng, and www.education.gov.ng or through verified social media channels.

The Ministry also warned that individuals spreading false information would be reported to relevant security agencies for investigation and possible prosecution.
