Muhammed Babangida Did Not Reject Appointment Says Presidency

Presidency denies claims Muhammed Babangida rejected Bank of Agriculture chairman role from Tinubu.

Aide says viral letter is fake, confirms Babangida accepted appointment and thanked the President.

The Presidency has denied claims that Muhammed Babangida, son of former military leader Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB), turned down his recent appointment by President Bola Tinubu as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA).

A letter purportedly showing Muhammed’s rejection of the role had been shared online by Ovation Magazine publisher, Dele Momodu, on Monday. The letter, dated July 21, 2025, claimed Muhammed declined the appointment due to “personal and professional reasons.”

However, the Presidency has come forward to debunk the letter, insisting that the younger Babangida accepted the position and is grateful for the opportunity.

Olusegun Dada, a presidential media aide, clarified the situation in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. He stated that Muhammed Babangida had not rejected the offer but had “officially accepted his appointment” and thanked President Tinubu for the confidence shown in him.

“Muhammed Babangida has officially accepted his appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture and expresses deep gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Dada wrote.

According to him, the report of a rejection is “false and malicious,” adding that it was created to mislead Nigerians and damage the credibility of the Tinubu administration. He said the letter circulating online was fabricated and not a reflection of Muhammed’s true position.

The statement also warned that individuals behind the fake news would be identified and held responsible. It urged Nigerians to verify information through trusted sources and not fall for attempts to spread confusion.
