Police have approved a new tactical base in Iviukhua community to fight rising insecurity.
Community leaders thanked police for helping protect farmers from kidnappers and other criminal attacks.
The Nigeria Police Force has given the green light for the establishment of a tactical command base in Iviukhua, a community in Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.
This development follows continued pleas from local leaders, who raised serious concerns about rising cases of kidnapping and attacks on farmers in the area. In recent times, suspected herders and other criminal groups have targeted farmlands, resulting in abductions, injuries, and disruption of both farming and local economic activities.
The police approval was acknowledged in a letter of appreciation signed by three prominent members of the community: the Onogie of Iviukhua, High Chief Saliu Sule Izuagbe; the President General, Dr Kennedy Izuagbe; and a former Nigerian Ambassador to Brazil, Paraguay, and Bolivia, Ambassador Adamu Emozozo.
The letter, which was sent to the Edo State Commissioner of Police and dated Saturday, hailed the move as a joint step towards restoring peace and ensuring community safety.
Part of the letter read, “Your physical visit today to our community and subsequent communication of the Edo State Police Command’s approval of a Tactical Police Command in our community has thrown Iviukhua and neighboring communities into wild jubilation.
“This approval to address the security challenges in our community and adjoining areas remains a legacy that will be remembered as a bright moment in your career.”
The community further assured the police of their total support, noting that infrastructure intended for the tactical base is currently being upgraded to meet operational standards. They also pledged full cooperation and hospitality to the officers who will be stationed in the area.
