PDP Schedules 101st NEC Meeting for July 23–25 in Abuja

PDP schedules key three-day NEC meeting to address internal rifts and 2027 election preparations.

Top party leaders, lawmakers, and governors will gather in Abuja to chart PDP’s political future.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced a three-day National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled to hold from Wednesday, July 23, to Friday, July 25, at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, who confirmed that the 101st NEC meeting will commence at 2:00 p.m. daily throughout the three-day session.

According to the statement, the meeting will bring together key figures from across the PDP national and state structures. Expected participants include:

  • The PDP National Chairman
  • Serving and former Presidents and Vice Presidents who are party members
  • All members of the Board of Trustees (BoT), including the BoT Chairman and Secretary
  • Principal officers of the National Assembly who belong to the party
  • 18 Senators and 24 Members of the House of Representatives
  • All PDP state governors
  • All national officers, state chairpersons, ex-officio members, and former officeholders who remain in the party

While the party did not disclose the full agenda, the timing of the NEC meeting comes amid a turbulent political climate and ongoing realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. The meeting is expected to address several pressing internal issues, including recent defections, party discipline, national strategy, and preparations for upcoming elections.

The PDP has faced internal challenges in recent months, including public rifts, defections to the ruling APC, and shifting alliances. However, party insiders suggest that the upcoming NEC meeting is intended to rebuild unity, reposition the party, and strategize for the 2027 election.

The PDP recently criticized the Tinubu administration over issues of insecurity, economic hardship, and governance, branding the president a “bad market” for Nigerians ahead of the next election cycle. Notably, some prominent PDP leaders, including Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, have reportedly aligned with the ruling party on specific issues, raising questions about internal cohesion.

The three-day meeting is expected to offer a platform for party stakeholders to reconcile differences, address defections, and reaffirm the PDP direction as the main opposition force in Nigerian politics.
