Reps Committee Clears UBEC Boss, Passes Vote of Confidence After Lagos Retreat
Reps committee backs UBEC boss, denies any probe amid rumors of mismanagement or leadership crisis.
They commend Dr. Aisha Garba’s reforms, aligning with Tinubu’s education agenda to boost learning outcomes.
The House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education has declared its full support for the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Aisha Garba Mohammed, following a weekend retreat in Lagos.
The committee, which had been previously linked to reports of alleged investigations into UBEC’s leadership, reversed course and clarified that no accusations were discussed during the event. The retreat focused solely on reviewing the UBEC Act with the goal of strengthening basic education in Nigeria.
Committee Chairman Hon. Mark Bako Useni firmly denied the earlier rumors of any probe into Dr. Garba’s administration.
“At no point during the retreat did the committee raise or deliberate on any allegations of mismanagement or administrative infractions against the Executive Secretary,” he said.
Useni went on to praise Dr. Garba’s leadership, especially her work in promoting transparency, accountability, and partnerships with State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs).
The committee also applauded her ongoing reforms in quality assurance, stating that her efforts are in line with President Bola Tinubu’s vision to improve Nigeria’s education sector.
Lawmakers emphasized that the retreat’s agenda was entirely focused on legislative amendments to the UBEC Act and not tied to any investigation or controversy.
