Popular Nollywood actress and producer, Shirley Igwe, has been hit with an indefinite suspension by the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) following an incident on a movie set in Lagos.
According to reports, the suspension came after Shirley reportedly slapped a crew member during filming. What started as a misunderstanding between the actress and the crew member quickly escalated into a physical altercation, shocking others on set.
The incident caught the attention of the AGN leadership, who said that her actions were damaging to the image of the Nigerian film industry.
In a statement released by Ifeoma Okeke, the Chief of Staff to the AGN National President, the guild described Shirley’s behavior as:“violence, indiscipline, and unprofessional misconduct.”
The AGN acted quickly, saying a preliminary investigation had been conducted, and based on that, her indefinite suspension was announced immediately.
In addition, the guild warned all its members to stay away from any film production that includes Shirley Igwe for the time being.
