The revived transport service marks a significant step in the administration’s efforts to enhance mobility and support the economic well-being of Edo residents through reliable, affordable, and government-backed transportation.

The New Edo Line is expected to serve both intra-state and interstate routes with a fresh fleet of modern buses and upgraded operational infrastructure. According to state officials, the relaunch comes after months of strategic planning and restructuring aimed at repositioning the company for sustainability and competitiveness in Nigeria’s transport sector.

Speaking during the event, Governor Okpebholo said the initiative aligns with his administration’s broader goal of delivering essential public services with transparency and efficiency. He described the transport company’s revival as “a symbol of renewed governance and a practical step toward restoring Edo’s economic vibrancy.”

“The relaunch of the New Edo Line is more than just about buses; it is about connecting people, powering trade, supporting livelihoods, and proving that public institutions can work effectively when given the right leadership,” the governor stated.

Stakeholders at the event lauded the project as a key infrastructure milestone, particularly as transportation remains a significant challenge for many Nigerians amid rising fuel prices and inflation.

In addition to improving movement across the state, the New Edo Line is also expected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities for drivers, mechanics, administrators, and vendors.

The transport company, which had suffered years of decline, has now been equipped with digital ticketing systems, safety-monitoring tools, and a new brand identity that reflects modern service standards.

The relaunch of New Edo Line follows a growing trend of subnational governments investing in public transport as a means to ease mobility pressure and boost local economic development.

With the commissioning completed, operations are set to commence in the coming days, bringing affordable, safe, and accessible transport to the people of Edo State once again.
