PDP Will Rise Again as Olawepo-Hashim Declares Ahead of 2027 Elections

Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim says PDP is ready for national comeback ahead of 2027 elections.

He urges unity and praises party leadership, calling PDP Nigeria’s best hope for real change.

Former presidential candidate, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has expressed strong optimism about the future of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that the party is set for a national resurgence. Speaking during a strategic engagement with the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) at the Wadata Plaza in Abuja, he confidently stated, “The PDP will rise again.”

Dr. Hashim, a founding member of the PDP, acknowledged the party’s past internal struggles, including defections and divisions, but maintained that the PDP remains the only political organization with true national reach and the capacity to transform Nigeria in 2027.

“Since 1998, PDP has had a presence in nearly every polling unit across the country,” he said. “This nationwide structure still exists, and it positions the PDP as the most credible alternative to the ruling APC.”

He dismissed concerns over the party’s declining influence, attributing defections to political pressure rather than a loss of grassroots support. According to him, “The strength of any party lies in its people, not in a few high-profile defections. The people are still with the PDP.”

Dr. Hashim also praised the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umaru Damagun, for his leadership in holding the party together during challenging times. “Ambassador Damagun’s calm and wisdom have kept the PDP united when some wanted to divide it. His leadership deserves commendation,” he noted.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Hashim called on the party to present a credible and visionary candidate one who can restore national security, revive the economy, and promote justice and equity.

“Nigerians are searching for a different kind of leadership. The PDP must be the hope for that change,” he said. “With unity, discipline, and determination, the PDP can not only win in 2027 but also lead Nigeria’s renewal.”

Earlier in the day, Hashim also attended a meeting of PDP founding members held at the NAF Centre in Kado, Abuja. His presence at the high-level gathering marked his official return to the party he helped establish, reaffirming his renewed commitment to its mission.
